The Sycophant Trap

So exactly what is a sycophant?

The dictionary definition is - someone who acts obsequiously towards someone who is important

In other words - a brownnoser - a boot licker - a butt kisser - a suck up - there are approximately 166 different words to describe a sycophant.

Here's my description - sad cow who lives her life through other people's achievements or position.
Maybe I'm being too harsh? Nah - don't think so.

Sycophants are all over social media - say one word against their precious celeb and you are castigated as being an awful person. I recently had a run in with a sycophant on Twitter about a negative comment I made toward Megan Markle. Basically, the sycophant was defending MM's bleating about the unfair negative press she was getting.  Now there's a celeb that seriously needs to look in the mirror, and figure out why the public have turned off her. Could it have something to do with being an overprivileged diva who gets her security team to chase away the proletariat at events like Wimbledon?

And hey what about the poor guy taking a selfie -
He had to prove he wasn't taking a pic of her - please.

Class comes when you will one day be Queen, and are happy to sit with the rest of us plebs on an outside court -

There's nothing wrong with being a fan. I'm a fan of many things - Duchess of Cambridge for one.

It never ceases to amaze me why some people, mainly women, are so ready to slavishly identify with celebs. The Twitter post, I mentioned, shocked me by the amount of unpleasant, downright nasty, responses I got from her followers. If the Wimbledon incident is anything to go by, she wouldn't give her defenders the time of day, unless to get some good publicity.

Carol's Clone!
Of course, not everyone who has had a sycophant hanger on, is a well known personality.

Take my friend Carol for instance - she did what romance novelists dream of - she married a rich man. At a party she and her husband, met another couple. I knew the  couple they met, but only vaguely. Carol and Kevin, struck up a friendship with Mark and Sue, (not the real names of either couple).

It wasn't long before Sue changed her hair to an exact copy of Carol's hairstyle. She began to dress exactly the same, and she replaced her car with an identical model to Carol's. She even went and got a dog that was the same breed as Carol's husband's dog. Everything, Carol did, said or was - this poor deluded girl copied. Sue, didn't like spicy food, that all changed when she met Carol. Carol loved Indian food -  every Friday, when the group went out to dinner together it was to an Indian restaurant. Poor Sue - she had eclipsed her own personality replacing it with someone else's. Not the most cheerful soul in the first place, she was now downright miserable thanks to trapping herself in a persona that  did not suit her.

There's nothing wrong in admiring famous people. To never allow others to criticise your idol, is, in my opinion, bad for the worshipper's mental health. This closed mind attitude brings with it so many negativity emotions.

Anger -  Getting angry at someone you don't know because they made a Twitter comment against someone you don't, and probably will never know, but wish you did, makes no sense at all.

Impotence -  The feelings that you are totally not in-control of a situation, such as Twitter feed, can be very unsettling in an already emotionally unbalanced person. Emotionally unbalanced, because it is not normal to become so fixated on a celeb to the point where they have been put on a,( probably undeserved), pedestal.

Frustration - Likewise frustration, ergo, not being able to change people's opinions about the idol in question, often spills over into other aspects of life.

Stress/Anxiety - Any of which, can be brought on by any of the above. There's enough negativity in modern life - so why pile unnecessary stress/anxiety into the mix?

Copying celebs fashion sense - has merit. They can afford to hire the best fashion gurus to make them look good. So, when the high street copies their fashion choices it's plus for copycats. After all, high street 'knock offs', let non celebs like you and I, buy designer style at a cheap price.

Copying fashion is one thing, blindly defending someone because they just happen to be in the public eye - is irrational to say the least.

If those Twitter defenders of Megan Markle, are so vehement in their hatred of anyone who disagrees with them that the sun does not shine out of her proverbial - what does that do for their personal relationships?
To me not liking someone because they don't share the same sycophantic idiocy - is no different to disliking a person because of their religious beliefs. I once knew a guy who refused to employ anyone who supported the Arsenal football team. How stupid can someone get - to cut off a whole section of potentially suitable employees, simply because they don't follow the same football team?

I decided to ignore the nasty comments I received by simply not responding. Rude obnoxious sentiments aimed in my direction, only serve to further my opinion that the writer is in need of therapy. They certainly won't stop me from making any comments I choose to.

The nastier the replies, the more outspoken I'll get!!
